So boasts Allergan Co, the makers of Juvederm, “over time skin loses its volume. Juvederm helps you temporarily bring it back.”
What Is Juvederm?
Juvederm is a registered trademark of Allergan Co and is available by prescription only. This product is, in fact, “the leading collection of fillers to temporarily lift [and] contour cheeks, smooth lines, or plump lips. How? It temporarily restores your skin’s volume with a modified form of hyaluronic acid,” says Allergan Co.
LIFT IT. SMOOTH IT. PLUMP IT.

Hyaluronic Acid Adds Volume
Simply put, hyaluronic acid is naturally found in the body. It delivers volume to the skin. To clarify, Juvederm’s main ingredient is a modified hyaluronic acid. As a result, treatments of Juvederm help add volume without the need for surgery.
A Collection of Juvederm
There are 5 pieces to the Juvederm collection. Namely, Juvederm XC, Juvederm Ultra XC, Juvederm Vollure XC, Juvederm Volbella XC, and Juvederm Voluma XC.
Each one of these products is designed with a specific goal in mind. Firstly, says Allergan Co, Juvederm Voluma adds “volume to the cheek area.” Secondly, use Juvederm Vollure and Juvederm XC to smooth out moderate to severe facial lines. Finally, get an injection of Juvederm Volbella or Juvederm Ultra into your lips to add volume.
Who’s A Good Candidate?
For the most part, any woman or man over the age of 18 who wants to restore volume to their appearance qualifies for Juvederm.
However, you may not be a good candidate if you have a history of excessive scarring or pigmentation disorders. If you are planning other laser treatments or a chemical peel you should not receive injections of Juvederm.
If you are on immunosuppressive therapy risk of injection is increased. Lastly, if you are using medications that can prolong bleeding, such as aspirin, ibuprofen, or other blood thinners, you should avoid all cosmetic procedures.
Of course, if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, Juvederm is not recommended for you.
What Are The Side Effects?
The most commonly reported side effects include injection-site redness. In addition, swelling, pain, tenderness, firmness, lumps/bumps, bruising, discoloration, dryness, and itching are possible. Most side effects are mild or moderate and last 14 days or less. But, one of the risks with using any cosmetic product is the unintentional injection into a blood vessel. While rare, the ensuing complications can be serious and may be permanent.
As with all skin injection procedures, there is a risk of infection.
FLAUNT IT. OWN IT. JUVEDERM IT.
—ALLERGAN CO, 2019
In short, Juvederm is a revolutionary cosmetic product. Yes, surgery is not your only option to get plumped lips! As a result, you can have your cake and eat it too. Have any questions? Feel free to consult with a physician.
