Surgical chin augmentation requires general anesthesia and usually involves a significant recovery period. However, nonsurgical chin augmentation is a great option for treatment that is relatively painless, less expensive, and doesn’t require anesthesia. Nonsurgical chin augmentation uses injectable dermal fillers like Juvederm® and Radiesse®.

How Does Nonsurgical Chin Augmentation Work?

After a consultation with your doctor, who will determine how much filler is needed for your desired results, a dermal filler is injected into the area. Results are almost immediate. You’ll see if the added filler has achieved your desired look or if changes need to be made. The whole process generally takes two 15 minute visits—an initial visit and follow-up. Though some tenderness may occur, patients can typically leave satisfied and pain-free after the first visit.

Are There Side Effects?Nonsurgical Chin Augmentation

Avoid taking aspirin and other anti-inflammatory drugs which thin the blood a week before the procedure. This will reduce the risk of bruising at the injection site.

Avoid strenuous physical activities or excessive sun and heat exposure as well as the consumption of alcohol, for the first 24 hours. Also, be careful with the application of make-up. This will help reduce the chance of some possible side-effects like redness, itching, swelling or bumps. These reactions are usually mild to moderate and resolve within 7 days or less. Applying an ice pack for a brief period of time may be helpful if you notice some of these reactions.

Is Nonsurgical Chin Augmentation Right for Me?

Because only you know what look is the right look for you, it’s important to discuss treatment and expectations with your healthcare provider. During a consultation, he will determine if chin augmentation is right for you, plus how much product is appropriate to enhance your look.
